It was quite intimate and cosy. The building looked like an old church with its Moorish arches.  A couple of girls came out and sang for us (incredible voices). Maceo 107, entre Marti y Marmol, Bayamo 85100, Cuba Tele: +53 23 426942.

The main part of Bayamo is centered around the square called Parque Carlos Manuel Cespedes. It is named after Cespedes who made the declaration of Cuban independence in 1868 which started the Ten Years War (1868-1878).

Perucho Figueredo is also honored in this park. He wrote the National Anthem of Cuba while living in Bayamo. Not only was he a writer and poet, but he helped plan the 10 year War against the Spanish.

There are street vendor artists all around the square and I couldn’t help buying a couple of small pieces (great size when traveling). After looking at the art, there is not much to do in this town, so we decided to drop in on a few of their stores. Here we found not much of a selection of anything (it’s basically rows upon rows of all of the same products).

In the square I purchased a couple of small paintings with the old 1950’s cars they drive around Cuba.

Visited a store where Cuban citizens sell washers for the government.

One cannot help but notice you don’t have much to choose from in a Cuban store.
