We woke up to play baseball with a team from Remedios. I actually hit every pitch and impressed even myself. Baseball is not something I even remotely pretend to have any talent at. So you can imagine my surprise.

When we entered the Sugar Cane Processing factory, they first gave us a welcome drink of sugar cane juice which I loved but Charlie handed me his. “Too sweet.” he claimed. “Kinda like me”, I say back? Located at Carretera Caibarien km 1, Remedios 52700 Cuba. The industry of Sugar is the principal agricultural commodity in Cuba.

Museo De La Industria Azucarera Sugar Factory is now a museum but in it’s heyday, it was a happening place from 1850 to 1998.

Raw sugar accounts for $378 million of Cuba’s $1.4 billion in exports (refined petroleum approximately $314M and rolled tobacco $236M, hard liquor  $116M, nickel approximately $108M). In contrast, they import $11.06 billion. Cuba trades with Venezuela, Spain, Russia, Lebanon, Indonesia and Germany. Venezuela and Russia’s economy are not optimal right now.
