FAKE JEWELRY & WEDDING RINGS
Why risk losing your wedding ring or being robbed of it in a foreign country? For $20. or less, you can buy a ring that will do the trick.
Quick note: in the USA, UK, France, Italy, Mexico and South Africa wedding rings are worn on the left hand. The vein in the forth finger of the left hand is believed to run right to the heart.
In some countries they wear the rings on their left hand (Russia, Greece, Denmark, India, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia and Spain). India believes the left hand in unclean.
MOSQUITO NETTING
If you happen to be going to a place with a lot of mosquitoes, it may be a good idea to bring some lightweight mosquito netting to drape over your bed while you sleep. I woke up in Africa finding blood splats all over our bed sheets. When my husband rolled over, I found the culprit. Mosquitoes were biting his back and they were so thick when he rolled over he would squash them.
The rest of our stay, I sprayed mosquito repellent all over myself before going to bed (not an ideal thing to do for my husband). However, I felt this was better than the alternative of getting West Nile virus or malaria. We were vaccinated prior to leaving the USA, but who wants to risk it?
