Whether you want to see some of the highest prices in real estate, do some retail shopping, see historical architecture, museums, or watch some of the best parades, 5th (Fifth) Avenue in NYC is where you want to be.
You have probably seen it on TV. It’s where the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade takes place. Running from Washington Square past Central Park and ending at 142nd street, running along 5th Avenue is one of the main thoroughfares on Manhattan island. It is a 6.19 miles long walk from end to end.

Known as the most “expensive street” in the world real estate alone can seek up to $114 million for a condo in the Upper East Side. Fifth Avenue is also named “millionaire row” which suits the price tags.
Museum Mile runs from 82nd to 110th Street in the Upper East Side. Nine museums can be found in museum miles (although it is two blocks longer than a mile).
Most importantly, It’s also one of my most favorite places to shop! This is where retail stores spend more per square footage on rent than anywhere else in the world. According to Forbes magazine’s article from 2016 rent was approximately $3500 a sq ft. Hence, stores in turn charge accordingly for their merchandise to maintain this stature. Unfortunately, during my last visit to 5th Avenue in 2019, many storefronts were empty with the 2008 downturn in the economy claiming another victim. Still surviving are Chanel, Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Armani. Some of the closures were Gap, Henri Bendel, Polo Ralph Lauren, and Versace.

Historical buildings and monuments are also in abundance on 5th Avenue.
