GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL (1913 – on) , GRAND CENTRAL DEPOT, (1871) GRAND CENTRAL STATION (1901)
If you hear people talking about the Grand Central Terminal or Grand Central Depot, or Grand Central Station, they are talking about the same location and the building that stands at that location. Each time it was renovated the station had a name change. The final renovation in 1913 brought about the use of electricity with trains and all the tracks had to be redone.
It was built as a transportation hub however, you will find shopping, dining and even events held here. The terminal is one of the most visited places in New York.
Reed & Stem architects won the design however, another architect was hired to give it more personality. Warren & Wetmore were hired to add their imagination to the structure. They introduced the three triumphal arches in the monumental facade. The New York Transit Museum goes into detail about its construction and is also worth checking out.
